Dawn Wells Remembers 50 Years of *Gilligan’s Island*, a new Rock Supergroup, and Film Noir on the Next *Dave White Presents*!

On Sept. 26, 1964, a three-hour tour ended up with 7 castaways stranded on *Gilligan’s Island*. 50 years later, Gilligan, the Skipper, the Professor, the movie star, the Howells and Mary Ann Somers are still entertaining us on both DVD and on ME-TV. And now, Mary Ann has a new book coming out coordinated to be part of the anniversary celebration!

On Sept. 23, Dawn Wells returns to *DWP* to share colorful stories of what went on behind the scenes and the relationships of the cast members during and after the original 3 year run. How did Jim Backus teach the younger players comic timing and what does Dawn think about the many erroneous stories posted all over the internet? What does Dawn think about the Ginger vs. Mary Ann debates and any possible film remake?

On top of all that, Dawn also has much to say about her new book, *What Would Mary Ann Do? A Guide to Life*. In her book, Dawn talks about her most famous character, her cultural impact, and lessons everyone can draw from Mary Ann for their own personal success. She discusses fame and family, men and manners, optimism and a solid work ethic, and illustrates all of these points with stories from the *Gilligan’s Island” set. In short, if you’re a *Gilligan’s Island* fan, the very personable Dawn Wells will take you on a tour of the show that will remind you of why you’ve been loving Mary Ann Somers all these years.

What happens when you throw together veterans of The Cars, Blondie, The Romantics, and The Chesterfield Kings? You get The Empty Hearts.

The Empty Hearts are Elliot Easton of The Cars (lead guitar), Blondie’s Clem Burke (drums), Wally Palmar from The Romantics (vocals, harmonica, guitar),and bassist Andy Babiuk from The Chesterfield Kings. On Sept. 23, Andy Babiuk comes to *DWP* to talk about this new supergroup and how their first self-titled album came together.

Babiuk will tell you why these “rock and roll lifers” decided to pool their resources after telling each other for years “We gotta do something together some time.” The result should please lovers of the music of The Who, Kinks, Stones, the bands these rock vets came from, and those who dig ’60s garage rock. Yep, we got two hot samples to demonstrate what these pros can do—

In 1992, the U.S. National Film Registry chose the 1945 *Detour* for preservation as it’s considered “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. Despite a cast of relative unknowns and a small budget, the film noir thriller has earned critical and popular acclaim ever since its release. Why?

On the next *DWP*, Dave White and the “Savant of the Silver Screen,” Chicago Bill Hanson, once again offer their takes on a movie classic they think you might enjoy. What does *Detour* have that has intrigued everyone from Roger Ebert to the Library of Congress? You’ll have to tune in to find out–

So Dawn Wells, the Empty Hearts, and *Detour* on the next *Dave White Presents*, Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over–

September 9th, 2014

Singer, actress and film director Connie Stevens will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision RadioKSAV.org.

Jones, the critically acclaimed dramathat is based on a traumatic event that Connie witnessed when she was a young girl. Phil Gries will join us in our first hour as The Sounds of Lost Television remembers pioneering television broadcaster Les Crane. The first national late night talk show host to compete against The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, Les Crane first left his mark as a radio talk show host for KGO-AM in San Francisco before moving on to WABC-TV in New York, where he really came into prominence. The original “bad boy of late night television” — and, in some respects, a forerunner of “shock radio,” in that he often tackled such then-taboo topics as homosexuality and prayer in school — Crane’s popular New York talk show also paved the way for The Phil Donahue Show and, later, Oprah Winfrey.

Also this week: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen will say Happy Birthday to Bob Newhart as part of This Week in TV History.
