A Tribute to James Garner: Next on TVC

We’ll celebrate the life and career of James Garner on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision RadioKSAV.org.

Whether you think of him as Jim Rockford, Bret Maverick, Grandpa Jim on8 Simple Rules, Charlie Madison in The Americanization of Emily, Dr. Harold Lear in Heartsounds, Murphy in Murphy’s Romance, Noah Calhoun in The Notebook, his Polaroid commercials with Mariette Hartley, or his many other memorable roles in film and television, James Garner was one of those actors that you never got tired of watching. That’s one reason why his career spanned six decades — and his fan base spans an amazing four generations.

James Garner passed away on July 19, 2014. This week’s program will be devoted entirely to the iconic actor who, time and again, changed the way we looked at our film and TV heroes. We’ll play highlights from some of our previous conversations with the people who knew and worked with James Garner, including Jon Winokur (co-author of The Garner Files, Jim’s memoirs of his career in film and television), Emmy winners Roy Huggins (creator of Maverick, co-creator of The Rockford Files) and Stephen J. Cannell (co-creator of The Rockford Files), writer/producer Juanita Bartlett (NicholsThe Rockford Files), and a few other surprises. We’ll also read some of the emails and Facebook comments about Garner that you have posted over the past few weeks. Plus we’ll hear from James Garner himself, in the form of two rarely heard radio interviews.

DWP 12/30

Have a Happy Days New Year with Donnie Most and jazz/blues singer Robin Banks on the *Dave White Presents* New Year’s Special!

Don Most is, of course, best remembered for his decade long stint playing Ralph Malph on ABC TV’s *Happy Days*. Did you know he also starred in and directed many independent films and appeared on shows from *C.H.I.P.S.*, *Baywatch*, *Glee*, *Star Trek: Voyager*, to *Family Guy*? Did you know he’s also a heckofa singer?

On Tues. Dec. 30, Don Most comes to *DWP* to talk about his love of the American Songbook and how this led to his current “Donnie Most Sings and Swings” concerts. In a lively and very personable conversation with Wes Britton, Don recalls meeting his idol, Bobby Darin, and discusses his acting work after *Happy Days* (especially *Voyager* and *Family Guy*).  Of course, we’ll get into his role as Ralph Malph, the differences between the actor and the character, and his relationships with his cast mates. Why did Anson Williams get to sing on the show and not Most? What did Jerry from the *Dick Van Dyke Show* have to do with the creation of Ralph Malph? We’ll play you samples of Most belting out some standards and think you’ll be happily surprised—

Speaking of the sounds of the American Songbook era, Toronto’s Robin Banks is a wonderful jazz/blues stylist, as demonstrated on her fifth album, *Modern Classic*. Think Billie Holiday, Etta James, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee, or Nina Simone. There’s one major difference between Robin and her forbearers—she writes all her own autobiographical songs. On top of that, she’s supported by the legendary Duke Robillard and the Roomful of Blues horns.

On the Dec. 30 *DWP*, you get a chance to meet the saucy, sassy Robin Banks and hear some jumpin’ samples from *Modern Classic*! We predict you’ll agree that this is the perfect album title for one of the best musical collections of 2014!

So make a resolution to join us for the next *Dave White Presents*, Tuesday, Dec. 30, to enjoy *Happy Days*, a *Modern Classic*, and some “predictably unpredictable” holiday humor at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over–
