The Fight for Vietnam’s Firebase Kate: Next on TVC

April 21st, 2015

Author, journalist and screenwriter Marvin J. Wolf will join us on the next edition of TV CONFIDENTIAL, Friday at 7pm ET and PT on Share-a-Vision RadioKSAV.org.

Marvin J. Wolf is the author or co-author of seventeen books, includingBeating the Odds (the memoirs of ABC founding president Leonard Goldenson), Fallen Angels (an inside look at famous crimes that took place in Hollywood), and the Rabbi Ben mystery novel series, while his credits as a screenwriter include the made-for-TV movie Ladies Night.

Marv’s latest book, Abandoned in Hell: The Fight for Vietnam’s Firebase Kate, is a gripping account of a bloody five-day battle in the central highlands of Vietnam that was led by a young captain named William Albracht. It is a very cinematic story that speaks to the transformational power of individual heroism. It is also a story that, until recently, very few people knew about. Marvin J. Wolf will join us in our first hour.

Michael Des Barres Rocks, Larry Storch Jokes, and Victory at Sea on the Next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS!

Few of us can claim the breadth and depth of a career like that of Michael Des Barres.  His acting career includes a role in 1967’s TO SIR, WITH LOVE. Later he starred in Clint Eastwood’s PINK CADILLAC, UNDER SEIGE, GHOULIES, and sugar town. On TV, he appeared in WKRP IN CINCINNATI, ROSEANNE, SEINFELD and, most famously, as the recurring character, the assassin Murdock, on MACGYVER.

But Michael also has a distinguished history as a hard-driving rock singer.   He fronted the early 70s outfit, Silverhead, followed by Detective, a band signed to Led Zeppelin’s Swan Song Records. When Robert Palmer left Power Station, Des Barres took his place and fronted the band at 1985’s Live Aid.

Now, Michael has a new solo album out, THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE, and we’re talking good ole rock ‘n roll in the Classic Rock mold!      In fact, Michael and Wes Britton will be talking rock ‘n roll from Silverhead to the present and we’ll play two tracks from THE KEY TO THE UNIVERSE to whet your appetite. Here’s a clue to what’s coming—the first song is titled “I want love to punch me in the face.” Now, don’t jump to conclusions . . .

Next, Dave White again joins Silver Screen Savant Chicago Bill Hansen discussing the 1954 version of VICTORY AT SEA. Based on the 1952-1953 TV documentary series of the same name, the story of naval warfare during World War II was distinguished by the enduring musical score by Richard Rodgers and Robert Russell Bennett.  Sixty years later, does the film still deserve the accolades it earned then and will new audiences be interested?

Finally, we dip into the DWP archives to replay a classic Nov. 9, 2010 conversation between Wes Britton and   impressionist Larry Storch. Yep, Larry was the bumbling Corporal Randolph Agarn on F-TROOP, and has many comic memories about the show to share with you. Did you know Larry was the “Groovy Guru” on GET SMART and was the voice of Mr. Whoopee on TENNESSEE TUXEDO AND HIS TALES? That’s just scratching the surface of a long and distinguished career for agent who just turned 92!

So Classic Rock, a classic movie, and a classy comic on the next DAVE WHITE PRESENTS, Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, then 7:30 Pacific over–
